The Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole has directed all health workers in the country to maintain high index of suspicion, by screening all fevers for Ebola and other hemorrhagic fevers. He said in a statement by the ministry yesterday that there was need for heightened vigilance and intensified awareness efforts on the symptoms of hemorrhagic fevers. Adewole urged members of the public to observe high level of personal hygiene such as regular hand washing, and to also report all cases of fevers to the nearest health facility. The minister also urged Nigerians not to panic saying that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) are on ground and equipped to secure the health of citizens. “The agency has for a while now, been strengthening states capacities to detect, manage and respond to hemorrhagic fevers including Lassa fever,” he said.  He called on states to begin social mobilization and media awareness efforts via television, radio, print and soc...

At least four persons died when three suicide bombers hit the city of Maiduguri on Saturday morning, a security source said. The incidents happened at the Works department of the University of Maiduguri at about 1:06 am on Saturday morning, killing the suicide bombers who strapped IEDs to their bodies. Two university security personnel on duty were also affected, with one killed by the bomb. "They maneuvered their way into the University premises and wreaked havoc on the University community, " Two of the suicide bombers were stopped for interrogation by security men at the university as they tried sneaking into the university chapel. They detonated their explosives killing one of the security men and injuring the other. A third suicide bomber hiding nearby stormed the chapel a few minutes later, but security sources said he didn't succeed in killing or injuring anyone.
