Raped, Impregnated by father, 12-year-old girl battles with injuries
The incident took place in Imirigi, Ogbia Council.The Guardian learnt that her father constantly and repeatedly raped the girl until she became pregnant.
When the father learnt of her condition, he quickly handed her over to her lady friend, who took her through an unsuccessful process of abortion that left her with severe injuries, leading to constant bleeding from her private part.
The girl, who has undergone a series of medical treatments, according to family sources, would be due for another surgery this week at an undisclosed hospital.
The girl, who narrated her ordeal amidst pains and tears, said she had to run out of the house when she could no longer bear the pains, as she bleeds from her private part.
The girl, who lost her mother and was living with her maternal uncle until 2014 when he father took her to his home, said she was repeatedly forced to sleep with him almost every night since then.
She said though she grow up with her maternal uncle, but her father insisted in 2014 that she must come back home so that she could continue with her school, not knowing that she was to be turned into a sex slave by her own father.
The heart-rending story of the minor was first brought to the public knowledge recently by a human right organisation, Operation Rescue, which petitioned the state Commissioner of Police and Director of State Security Services (SSS), with copies to the Governor and the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, among others.
In the petition signed by its Coordinator, Princes Elizabeth Egba, the organisation sought a thorough investigation and prosecution of all those involved in the rape and forceful and unsuccessful abortion of the girl’s pregnancy.
The petition also wanted the case transferred out of Otuosega Police Station, where thugs allegedly loyal to the father of the girl threatened to invade and free him from detention.
Speaking with The Guardian, Egba said the girl was highly traumatised and in severe pain.She said: “They equally told us that the father has admitted to the crime and pleaded for forgiveness.
“We were also informed that he has been doing this with other minors, who are ready to testify very soon.
“Can you imagine? The information we gathered from family members is that some thugs are hanging around the Police station, planning to invade the station in order to help the father escape.
“But than God the case has been transferred to the State CID, after our petition.”
In the petition made available to The Guardian, the human right group also asked the Police and the SSS to order the arrest of all culprits in the case, including the doctor who carried out the failed abortion, the owner of the clinic where the said abortion was performed and the lady that aided the process.
They also urged the Police to offer protection to the victim, her uncle and principal witnesses in the case, insisting that the culprits must be brought to book.
